Rio Grande City, Texas ─ U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station confiscated approximately $2,500 worth of fireworks, 250 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and nearly 4,000 pounds of marijuana in multiple incidents over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
The fireworks and ammunition were seized Friday when agents working in Fronton, Texas, observed several people carrying bundles south toward the Rio Grande. When the group was approached by the agents, they dropped the bundles and ran into some thick brush near the river. The agents found the ammunition and fireworks inside the bundles that were left behind by the smugglers.

In an unrelated incident Sunday, agents seized more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana from a hunting cabin near Garciasville, Texas, while investigating a report of two suspicious vehicles entering a ranch.
The agents followed vehicle tracks and footprints from the main entrance of the ranch to the cabin, where the narcotics could be seen in plain sight.
In another incident that evening, agents seized more than 800 pounds of marijuana in Rio Grande City.
The marijuana from the two seizures is valued at more than $3.1 million and was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
