DoD Fiscal 2012 Budget Proposal Briefings Announced
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will conduct a briefing at 2 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 14, in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973) to discuss President Barack Obama’s fiscal 2012 budget proposal to Congress. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller/CFO) Robert Hale and Lt. Gen. Larry Spencer, director, force structure, resources and assessment, Joint Staff, will provide an overview briefing on the defense budget proposal.
Following this overview, representatives from the Department of the Army (3:15 p.m.), Department of the Navy (4 p.m.), and Department of the Air Force (4:45 p.m.) will conduct briefs and answer media questions. Briefs are scheduled for approximately 40 minutes with five minute turnover breaks. There will be no time provided to stop the briefs in order to file. We encourage outlets to bring more than one reporter, but all briefs are in sequential order to allow for maximum coverage.
All journalists must be seated by 1:50 p.m. in Pentagon 2E973. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass must be picked up at the River Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 60 minutes prior to the event, have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call 703-697-5131 for escort into the building.
A limited number of budget documents will be available in paper copy form in the DoD Press Office, Pentagon 2D960, next to the briefing room. Because of the large number of journalists expected to attend, only one paper copy per media outlet will be available. Electronic copies and press releases will be available online at 1:30 p.m. at http://www.budget.mil and http://www.defense.gov/releases .
