Chicago CBP Officers Arrest Convicted Sex Offender at O’Hare

Chicago, Illinois – Recently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at O’Hare International Airport arrested a convicted sex offender returning to this country from overseas. On May 17, Timothy Allen Bevell, a 40-year-old U.S. citizen, was apprehended by CBP officers after he arrived in Chicago on a flight from China.
“CBP officers are the very frontlines that protect this country against predators, terrorists and other dangerous people that would conspire to harm this nation,” said David Murphy, Chicago CBP Director Office of Field Operations. “Processing thousands of international passengers everyday from all over the world, CBP officers are trained to find and apprehend individuals wanted on local, state, federal or international charges. Each year, hundreds of fugitives are identified, arrested and turned over to law enforcement authorities at O’Hare.”
While being processed by CBP officers, record checks revealed that Bevell was a positive match on a Texas warrant for a sex offense against a child. After processing by CBP, Bevell was turned over to Chicago Police Department officers. He had spent the previous ten years in China. Currently, CBP does not maintain photos of apprehended fugitives.
In order to meet the immense challenge of balancing effective law enforcement with facilitation, Chicago CBP has established dynamic working relationships with the City of Chicago Department of Aviation, airline industry, Federal Inspectional Services agencies and other law enforcement entities to maintain a vigilant frontline and homeland security. Foreign flights land in Chicago from all over the world including Europe, Mexico, Canada, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. CBP Chicago O’Hare Airport holds the record for processing the most international travelers within one terminal, which number more than five million passengers per year.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of U.S. borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
