Disaster Recovery Center Opens In Story County

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A federal/state Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Story County will open Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 9 a.m. to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Iowa's recent storms and flooding.
The DRC will be located at 1615 Golden Aspen Drive, Suite 108, Ames, IA, 50010. The hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until further notice.
Story County's DRC is the seventh to open in the state. Those affected by the disaster may visit any DRC. DRCs in Delaware, Hamilton, Jasper, Mahaska, Polk and Wright counties are at the following locations:

All DRCs will be open Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Until further notice, DRC hours in Delaware, Hamilton, Jasper, Polk, Story and Wright counties are as follows:
Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Mahaska County DRC will close on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m.

Representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available at the DRCs to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs from other federal and state agencies also are available to individuals and business owners. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at DRCs.
At the DRC, visitors also may:
•Get help completing applications for federal low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations
•Inquire about the status of applications for federal assistance
•Obtain referrals to voluntary organizations that may help with immediate unmet needs
•Learn cost-effective mitigation measures to reduce the impact of future disaster losses
SBA disaster loans cover costs of repair or replacement of damaged real estate, personal property and business assets not fully covered by insurance or other aid; and for small businesses, such loans cover working capital needs caused by the disaster.
